The Kiwanis Hotbed Classic began as a two day, four team tournament in 1992 and has evolved to its present day format which is a one day boy’s only shootout with ten games involving twenty teams. Teams involved include our local schools and top teams from the state of Mississippi, as well as, our bordering states of Tennessee and Alabama. We have had teams come and play in the Hotbed from all over the state of Mississippi and as far away as Nashville, Memphis, Birmingham, Montgomery and Huntsville.

Several players that have played in the Hotbed have gone on to play college basketball, as well as, in the NBA. Some of the players that presently play in the NBA include Erick Dampier of the Dallas Mavericks and Travis Outlaw of the LA Clippers. Some former NBA players include Justin Reed of the Boston Celtics and Jackie Butler of the New York Knicks.

Numerous players from the Hotbed have gone on to play college basketball at Ole Miss, MS State, Alabama, Memphis, Georgia Tech., Vanderbilt, North Carolina, George Mason, and many smaller division 1 schools.

The Hotbed Classic is the premier one day event for boy’s basketball in Northeast Mississippi. It is our desire to continue bringing in top teams and talent from throughout the mid-south area and continue providing Northeast Mississippi with great basketball each and every year.
